S1 E2: Leaving Evangelicalism with Miss Koda V

American culture is steeped in Christianity. Those who have decided to extricate themselves from the Church offer a unique perspective on the impact of religion, and what it means to leave those traditions behind.

In Episode 2 of When We’re Not Hustling, host Jessie Sage sits down with Pittsburgh-based dominatrix Miss Koda V to discuss her experience leaving evangelical Christianity.

Miss Koda V discusses the link between African American identity and cultural Christianity; the fear-based governing of her community church; the nature of evangelical prophesying, falling out, and speaking in tongues; the divisiveness of the Trump election and presidency; and her eventual decision to leave the Church.

While acknowledging and respecting the profound importance of religion to many people, Jessie and Koda examine what it means to live outside the structure of the Church, asking, is it possible to be divine in your own right? Jessie and Miss Koda V tackle all this, and more.
